Our recommendations
Our recommendations are the services we use ourselves when we travel – and have done for years.

This is what we genuinely use – and have used for years. If you book through one of these links, we earn a small commission and you don’t pay a cent more. That is how we fund this blog.
Ad: these are partner links. If you book through them we earn a small commission – your price stays the same. We only link what we use ourselves.
How we book a trip
- Flights via a flight search with flexible dates – Tuesdays and Wednesdays are often much cheaper.
- Accommodation: in cities usually Airbnb (kitchen, washing machine), for one or two nights Booking.com (free cancellation).
- Getting around: rental car via Discover Cars (deposit covered), on islands rather a scooter or motorbike.
- Internet: activate an eSIM before you fly; for longer stays we bring Starlink.
- Money: a Wise card – never change money at the airport.
- Insurance: travel medical cover with SafetyWing for long trips – check that your activities (riding, diving) are covered.
Our recommendations: the bottom line
We have tested all of our recommendations ourselves: Airbnb for apartments with a kitchen, Discover Cars for rental cars, an eSIM for the phone, Starlink for remote stays and Wise for money without foreign fees. We also use GetYourGuide for tours and tickets, because many of them can be cancelled for free. So we only recommend what helped us on real trips – not what pays the highest commission. You can see how we use them in our travel guides. General information on your rights as a traveller in the EU is available from the European Union.
