Zakopane: a glamping dome with a hot tub and a view of the Tatras – our wellness weekend in Poland

Zakopane glamping – our own photo from the Tatras

Zakopane glamping was our weekend that felt like a holiday without flying: a dome tent with a glass front and a hot tub on the meadow.

September 2026. We wanted a weekend that felt like a holiday without flying. We found it above Zakopane: a glamping dome – a dome tent with a glass front, a proper bed and heating – and in front of it a hot tub on the meadow with a view of the High Tatras. At night stars through the dome, in the morning clouds drifting over the peaks, and two goats waiting at the fence for breakfast.

Getting there

From Vienna via Bratislava and Slovakia, approx. 4.5 hours. Buy the Slovak vignette online; in Poland the country roads are free. The last few kilometres are steep – in winter, winter tyres are compulsory.

The accommodation

A dome for two with a hot tub, a barbecue area, hanging chairs and a view: around €180–230 per night, more expensive at weekends. Bookable via Booking or directly. We had the dome right at the top of the slope – coffee in the hot tub in the morning is the only reason we need to come back.

Food

Oscypek (grilled sheep’s cheese with cranberries) is sold on every corner – but only the right ones count: it has to be soft and squeak when you bite into it, then it’s good. And definitely from a charcoal grill, old school – not from an electric grill, which makes it rubbery. Add pierogi and żurek. Krupówki Street is the tourist strip – two streets further on, everything costs half. Dinner for two with beer: €20–30.

Zakopane glamping: our verdict

The best value-for-money wellness weekend we have found in Central Europe. You can pay by card everywhere (złoty), Wise converts at the real rate – never click “pay in euros”.

Our verdict on Zakopane glamping: for a weekend from Vienna, this is one of the most beautiful breaks we know. Glamping and thermal baths also combine well, so we would plan at least two nights. All the places to visit in the area are in Things to do in Zakopane; background on the High Tatras can be found on Wikipedia.

Zakopane glamping: getting there, vignette and day trips

From Vienna to Zakopane it takes about four and a half hours via Bratislava and Slovakia. You need a digital vignette for the Slovak motorways: in 2026 the 10-day vignette costs €10.80 and the monthly one €17.10. Only buy it on eznamka.sk, in the “eznamka” app or at petrol stations – third-party sites add hefty fees. In Poland the country roads on this route are toll-free. In winter, winter tyres are a must on the steep access roads to the glamping sites, and snow chains in the boot do not hurt.

A glamping weekend combines well with the classics of the High Tatras. A funicular runs from the centre up Gubałówka hill, and a cable car goes up Kasprowy Wierch – buy tickets online in advance or you will queue. To the Morskie Oko mountain lake you walk about 9 kilometres on a paved road from the Palenica Białczańska car park, which has to be booked online. All the day trips with the time you need are in our Zakopane things to do.
